These are based on the nine different core woundings as laid out in the Enneagram. Don’t worry if you know a thing about the system, just read what’s below and see if any of them ring particularly loudly in your body.
First, let’s walk through how we lie. We all do lie sometimes, despite our best efforts. Here are the archetypal ways we do it.
lies of the heart
2: pretending I don’t want thank you’s
3: telling the edited truth that gets the job done
4: bitter personal attacks on the ones who don’t belong
frenzy in the mind
5: over-certainty about the data
6: so devoted to protecting others that I exaggerate the danger
7: tell the lie that gets me in or out of trouble
distrust of the body
8: lies to get back at others and settle the score
9: omitting the truth they perceive will cause conflict
1: lies for the sake of their integrity, a holier-than-thou propriety
Then, the medicine for the damage caused by lies is trust.
truth of the heart
2: Others will be ok even if I don’t help them.
3: I can truly need others’ help.
4: I will be ok even if others don’t help me.
beauty of the mind
5: It’s safe to enjoy.
6: It’s safe to exist.
7: It’s safe to suffer.
goodness of the body
8: Trust the strength in weakness.
9: Trust what my body tells me.
1: Trust the weakness in strength.
If one or two of these rang your bell, you might write this on a piece of paper and stick it somewhere you see several times a day. Live with it until the seed bears new fruit.
