Some of us walk around in the
same world, same walls,
same eyes, same hearts,
and see beauty.
Some are knotted in only pain.
Once that was me.
I thought the pain had to go away before I could see the beauty.
Now I know that beauty
cannot take the pain away.
No amount of gorgeous sunsets can make you
unmiss
the someone you wish was standing beside you.
If you feel robbed of their presence,
the beauty will only amplify your anguish.
Then, what’s the point of beauty? It pierces.
Some walk in the
same world, same walls,
same eyes, same hearts,
and let themselves be pierced again and again.
They stopped avoiding.
They started looking.
They are ever penetrated
by all of it – the walls, the eyes, the hearts.
They feel what others feel,
their pain, their heartbreak, their loss,
but don’t lose themselves in it.
They seek what others might seek,
but don’t burn in the clinging fire of desire.
They love, but are not attached to what they love.
They know, but are equally at home in the not knowing.
Piercing beauty is my home.
Piercing beauty is my home.
I feel myself as myself
when my eyes fill with tears
and my heart smiles at the same time.
We do beauty anyway
even though it can’t erase
what can’t be erased.
We do beauty anyway
because – beauty is.
It will not be denied.
We do beauty anyway
because, because
it reminds us
of love.

I thought to write a note on how not to read with oracle or tarot cards. One of the nastiest ways to trigger an existential crisis is to try to get them to make your decisions for you. Many people who don’t use cards avoid them because this is the only way they imagine others use them and want to this pitfall. Well, I’m here to tell you there are many ways to use cards that don’t fall into this trap.
DON’T: Ask the card what to do, i.e. “if the card is upright it’s a yes, if it’s reversed it’s a no” or “if it’s a positive card it’s a yes, otherwise it’s no.”
INSTEAD: Ask for a card that aids you in making the decision yourself. Questions like “what am I not seeing in XYZ situation?”, “what’s at the root of this snarl?”, “in what way am I being asked to grow because of this issue?” will bring you back into your power. Cards are, after all, just pieces of paper.
